DG1: IOTA

IOTA is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of light and movement. Our program celebrates its history and fosters the growth of the worldwide community of contemporary practitioners.

Over the years, the art of light and movement has been expressed in a wide range of media and techniques and has been called by a variety of names. In the world of film, for example, it's known as "Absolute Film" or "Abstract Animation," whereas in video art, it's referred to as "Video Synthesis" or "Image Processing."

Many artists invented their own one-of-a-kind hardware to project moving imagery in a live performance. Each of these "Visual Music" instrument inventors gave the art their own name: "Lumia," "Mobilcolor," "Color Music," etc.

Today this tradition continues in the development of visual music computer animation software such as "Electropaint," "Bliss Paint" and "The Music Animation Machine."

iota was founded on the premise that this wide range of techniques and nomenclature share common aesthetic goals which unite them into a single art of light and movement.
